Chemical & acid resistant Products
Durocast manufactures chemical and acid resistant products in Vereeniging — concretes, gunning mixes and mortars that protect chimneys, ducts, scrubbers, tanks, process vessels and floors from the acids, alkalis and sulphates that destroy ordinary concrete and steel.
Choose by chemistry: potassium silicate bonded Acicrete, Acispray and Aciset for strong acids; Acicrete 4 and Duroshield 60 for mild acids, sulphates and food-industry floors; and Alkacrete for alkalis. Durocast supplies across South Africa and into Africa — see Areas We Serve below.
ACICRETE 1S, ACISPRAY 1S, ACISET 1S
Potassium silicate bonded concrete, gunning and mortar resistant to almost all acids except hydrofluoric acid (HF).
ACICRETE 1, ACISPRAY 1, ACISET 1
Economic potassium silicate bonded concrete, gunning and mortar for use with almost all acids except hydrofluoric acid.
Recommended as a monolithic lining in:
- Chimneys
- Stacks
- Ducts
- Breechings
- Scrubbers
- Precipitators
- Tanks
- Process vessels and other equipment
- Use of a membrane is recommended in certain applications
As a monolithic floor topping in:
- Chemical plants and refineries
- As an alternative to acid brick and tile
Features:
- Resistant to most acids in most concentrations except hydrofluoric acid and fluoride salts. Especially recommended for nitric, hydrochloric, phosphoric and sulphuric acids. Ideal repair material. May be applied over damp, acid corroded concrete or brick.
- Cost effective.
- Fast chemical set – less construction delay.
- Safe to use. Does not emit hazardous fumes during mixing, application or setting.
ACICRETE 4, ACISPRAY 4, ACISET 4
Rapid hardening concrete, gunning and mortar for monolithic floors, chimney and tank linings. It is resistant to acids down to pH 3.5 – 4.0, sulphates and many organic materials.
Resistant to:
- Pure and acid water to pH 3.5 – 4.0.
- Mineral salts – particularly sulphates.
- Beer.
- Waste water.
- Tannic acid, lactic acid and vegetable oils.
- Hardens within 12 hours.
- Non hazardous to install.
Duroshield 60 — for heavy-duty floors:
- High-strength, rapid-hardening concrete for industrial floors, walls, columns and machine bases.
- Standard, mortar and gunning grades.
- Resistant to acids to pH 3.5 – 4.0 and mineral salts.
- Food-industry floors: sugar, oils, fats and organic acids such as vinegar, lactic acid and tannery effluent.
- Floors around furnaces up to 650 °C; hardens in refrigerated areas.
- Not for caustic soda or continuous strong mineral acids.
ALKACRETE
Alkacrete is a concrete specially formulated to be resistant to alkalis and sulphates. Designed to be resistant to black liquor in paper mills.
Features:
- Resistant to NaOH and KOH concentrations of up to 10%.
- Resistant to sulphates.
- Passivates steel reinforcing.
- Safe to use. Does not emit hazardous fumes during mixing, application or setting.
