Why Strong Acids Need a Silicate Bond

Portland-cement concrete is alkaline, so strong acids dissolve its binder and the structure loses strength from the surface inwards. Potassium silicate bonded materials work differently — their binder is acid-stable. Durocast’s Acicrete 1S range is resistant to most acids in most concentrations and is especially recommended for nitric, hydrochloric, phosphoric and sulphuric acids, the core chemistry of a fertiliser complex.
