Refractories in the steel industry

Refractories are the primary materials used by the steel industry in the internal linings of furnaces.

It is used for the process of making iron and steel, in vessels for holding and transporting metal and slag. This process happens within furnaces and the aim is to heat the steel before further processing and also in the flues or stacks through which hot gases are conducted.

Modern refractory technology is not just based on materials technology as in the past. It has grown into an integrated system that includes heat engineering, monitoring techniques, furnace design, lining installation and furnace operations.

History proves that the steel making process has developed dramatically and is now focused on improving production while cutting down on losses.
