Due to limited refractory brick manufacturing facilities within South Africa, industry is relying on imported products as a backup to local producers.
Normally lead times on certain items are relatively lengthy and some users might have to carry minimum stock. This could put pressure on cash flow especially for the smaller consumers.
Refractories are a strategic commodity and very few industries can function without it somewhere in the supply chain.
Power stations, steel manufacturing and the petrochemical industries are just some examples. We also have a situation that refractory raw materials are exported without any beneficiation or added value to them.
Durocast uses theses raw materials to produce finished products for markets both local and international. Due to the above situation, in certain areas monolithic construction is slowly replacing brick as a practical alternative.
We see this as a tremendous opportunity for further investment in technology and look forward to the future.
